Submission must contain both a photograph and a narrative.

- Photo Caption – Name, Date, Location
NARRATIVE DETAILS
Write a family story with details such as –
- Who are the people in the photograph ?
- Where did the family originate?
- What did they do ?
- Why was the photograph taken ?
- What other memories does it evoke ?
HOW TO SUBMIT
- All fields in the form are required.
- Please do not submit images received via WhatsApp or other messaging platforms. They destroy the image quality.
- Preparing your image
Scan the photograph at a minimum of 300 DPI (dots per inch), at a width of 10 inches. Save the file in JPEG format at image quality 8 or above. - Preparing your narrative
Write your story in a text or Word document first, then copy and paste it into the Narrative field on the form. - Submitting
Upload your JPEG file in the Image Upload field. Review all details, then click Submit. - If you experience any difficulties with the form, please send your submission by email to hello@indianmemoryproject.com with the subject line: Story Contribution.
TERMS
- Only photographs and documents dated before 1992 will be considered.
- Submissions may originate from anywhere in the world, provided the story has a connection to the people and/or places of South Asia and the Indian Subcontinent.
- The contributor must be the owner or guardian of the submitted photographs and documents, and must have knowledge of the people depicted. Where details are incomplete, we encourage you to consult relatives, family, or friends before submitting.
- A written narrative — whether a short essay, paragraph, or key story points — is mandatory. Submissions without accompanying text will not be considered.
- Each submission should include, where possible: names, approximate or exact date the image was taken, location, professions, ethnicity, and any other personal or historical details you wish to add.
- By submitting, you agree to your contributions being used by the Indian Memory Project for publications, press, exhibitions (national and international), presentations, talks, and workshops, across all existing and future media, strictly for educational and promotional purposes.
- Should a third party make enquiries regarding your images, the owner or guardian will be contacted separately to discuss permissions and licensing. The Indian Memory Project charges a facilitation fee of 50% of the licensed amount + GST, in line with industry standards. This fee is non-negotiable.
- Once published, a post cannot be retracted, either temporarily or permanently.
- All images, letters, and documents are administered by the Indian Memory Project. All text is fact-checked, proofed, and edited to suit the format of the archive.
- The Indian Memory Project will follow up with contributors should additional details be required to compose a cohesive narrative.
- The Indian Memory Project accepts no responsibility for any conflict or disagreement arising within families or social circles as a result of a submission being published.

THERE IS NO FEE TO SUBMIT OR PUBLISH A STORY.
ALL PHOTOGRAPHS BELONG TO THEIR CONTRIBUTORS.
IMP DOES NOT LICENSE THEM TO THIRD PARTIES.
